Mal Dickson – Guiding in Norway

Mal is one of two history and heritage enthusiasts responsible for creating Viking Footprints. His background is in research, journalism and teaching and is also a professional photographer.

Originally from Scotland, Mal left a city-based career in the UK for the love of Norway. Mal started his guiding career in Norway at Otternes Bygdetun, a historical farm near Flåm. He was then Head of Guiding at Njardarheimr viking village – part of the Viking Valley development in Gudvangen. He has also worked for Musea i Sogn og Fjordane at Kvernsteinsparken in Hyllestad. Mal also works with other tour providers, like Footprint Tours, where is experience is an asset to bigger groups too.

Using all of his previous experience Mal has created new ways of making accessible, and explaining, the beauty of Norway in carefully curated itineraries for visitors from all around the world. Mal is also passionate about helping others explore their roots and heritage in Norway and with his research background can also help with genealogical research and using it as a basis for creating tours that bring lasting memories and heritage and ancestry to life.
