Just how did people in the Viking Age make cloth for clothes, sails for boats and other important uses? Our introduction to textiles during the Viking Age will give you a flavour of all the aspects of making clothes – understanding first what raw materials can be used from animals and plants. Learn about how these materials are then used through combing, spinning and weaving to make cloth.
Understand just how important sheep were as the source of wool, the raw material for textile production. Learn a little of how people in the past used natural sources to create colours for dyeing their yarn and cloth.
You will also get an insight into the hidden language within beautifully patterned clothing items – a language of ancient symbols and meaning – and how all of these Viking Footprints have influenced the traditions that are still present today.
